Take home the key trends

Ikea. I’m sure everyone has some sort of relationship to this flat pack giant.

Whether you’re a fan or foe, I must admit to never turning down a visit when I’m offered one. Last night, I fought through the Manchester rush hour traffic with the promise of a meatball dinner firmly in my mind. I was also keen to see Ikea’s interpretation of some of this season’s key trends.

Green & Organic

ikea-trend-1

Green plants and organic materials can be seen everywhere at the moment. Especially the hanging flower pots. I love how these can make a real difference to a room by bringing texture and a sense of life. They will however look just a good outside. I’m planning on tying a couple together myself (hanging planter DIY) from thin leather straps.

Tip: Do an image search in Google for “Hanging planters“. You’ll get loads of ideas on how to make this work in your home.

Metals & Metallics

Metals and metallics, preferably in combination with the softer organic materials, is a big thing this year. I am already a big fan of the raw and industrial look, which you could probably tell if you saw our living room table (more on our lovely industrial coffe table in another post).

Patterns

I love these pot stands, and yes, you guessed it. Patterns and  are another big trend this year. Look for graphic prints and hexagon-inspired patterns for your rugs, cushion covers and soft furnishings and you will be spot on trend this year.

Bring in the Outdoors

ikea-trend-4

I have to admit, our home is in serious need of plants and greenness. Apart from 2 brave Piece Lilies and the occasional fresh cut flowers, our home is embarrassingly bare. I’m on a mission to address this so will definitely look for inspiration in this trend.

Do you have any plans or ideas for your home this year? Please share! 🙂
