Step in to our Living Room

Our living room was carefully planned over time, sourcing trendy furniture along with timeless pieces.

Now this is all a lie.

We’ve never been much for planning a head. You would think that at least one of us would step in and be the sensible one, but when this eventually happens it has usually past the point of no return. Hence why we decided to buy a new sofa, and ended up with a new living room.

It’s just over 2 years now since we moved in to the little Manchester home. We then lived a one bedroom apartment in Castlefield which was great for what we needed at the time. I studied at Salford University and Castlefield was within perfect walking distance. M worked in the city centre and could easily cycle to work. Castlefield was also an ideal location when you occasionally needed to stumble home from nights out.

We were living there quite happily until we were reached by the news that the landlord was putting the apartment up for sale. We started looking for new places and areas to live, and as I worked south of Manchester at the time, it made sense to investigate these areas a bit more. We found our perfect little rented home in Trafford. Squeezed in between Chorlton and Media City. A two bedroom town house with a little garden at the back.

Luckily, the house was already decorated with very neutral colours. The perfect blank canvas when going furniture hunting! This is how me made it feel like ours.

Contemporary Manchester living meets Scandinavian influences?

(Pinterest was super useful once we got started, but more about that in another post.)

livingroom-table

I do LOVE our table. We had it made to order from 101 Furniture and it turned out exactly as requested. As we had gone for a more modern look when choosing the sofa and TV unit, I liked the idea of adding contrast through a industrial looking table.

The breakfast bar was a bargain. £20 on Gumtree! We sanded it down and painted it white.

We’re not quite there yet. A neat looking wall shelf, or possibly a drink trolley, is still missing from an empty corner.
It’s on my long to-do-list of many home improvement ideas!
